Bye. That is all I need to say because it is time for goodbye for this year. So far this year has been really memorable and sorry we haven’t blogged since term 2. You will still be able to read my old blog posts, play with my pets and do the polls. Smiling and Giggling is still going to happen but not through the blog. Some highlights this year was camp, making new friends, F.P.S. and Cantamaths. My favourite would probably be camp because it was three days of camp and I really enjoyed talking to everyone in my bunk room and taking lots of funny videos and pictures. My wish for the future is that I will be able to meet up with my friends again when I’m a teenager and an adult. I think next year will be a better place for me even though I’m not with all my friends because I will be able to have more opportunities with a smaller class and 44 girls in my year level. Bye and remember smiling makes people happy.
As soon as I wake up I run to my owners bed and lick their face. As soon as she wakes up she either tells me off and go back to sleep or she goes and feeds me and lets me out to do my buisness. After I'm fed I drink some water and plays with all my stuffed toys. Finally when my owner wakes up she plays with me for ages. My owner then goes into her bedroom and watches some Netflix. After I have lunch my owner takes me to go for a walk. When I go to the park I always meet all these different dog friends. Some can be really annoying like that yapping Chihuaua I was forced to play with once. When I get home I go outside and try to play with the chickens but they don't do much. Soon after a long day I have dinner and watch some t.v. with my owner. I love it when my owner says I love you Friday. Finally after a long busy day I go to bed, after all a dog does need his beauty sleep. P.S. Friday is my virtual pet dog!
On Monday the 7th of September I had the F.P.S. ( Future Problem Solving) Lockdown/ Lockup. The F.P.S. Lockdown is when we have to do the whole booklet in 2 hours. This term our topic was Propaganda. In term 1 our topic was Social Media and in term 2 our topic was processed food. It's so sad that F.P.S. is only for 3 terms. In my team it was Paige, Dom, George and me. To get into F.P.S. you have to have a trial. Thankfully I got in. I really liked F.P.S. so I definitely think you should do it if you have the chance. The Lockdown was really intense and I felt like I was under a lot of pressure but I would do it again if it meant that I could do F.P.S. in term 4.
Did you know April the 14th is Dolphin Appreciation Day.So I decided to appreciate dolphins by writing a informative report about them.Dolphins are one of the most intelligent animals in the world. Dolphins are also known to protect humans from shark attacks. Dolphins are mammals which are warm blooded creatures. Dolphins can be grey, pink, blue, black and white. There are almost 40 species of dolphin. Dolphins mostly eat fish including mullet, mackerel, herring and cod. Dolphins live in oceans and rivers all over the world.Dolphins vary in size from 1.2m and 40 kg up to 9.5 m and 10 tonnes. Dolphins natural enemies are Orcas, and large sharks like tiger sharks and bull sharks. The dolphin species that are found in New Zealand are the Maui dolphin, the Hector’s dolphin, the Killer whale/Orca, the Bottlenose dolphin, the Dusky dolphin, the short-beaked common dolphin and pilot whales. The Hector’s dolphin is only found in New Zealand and is one of the smallest dolphins in the world. When dolphins are born they have hair which is found on their rostrum which is the dolphin’s mouth. After a few weeks the hair falls out. Dolphins don’t drink water because most of the water they swim in is saltwater. Instead dolphins get all the water they need from the fish they eat. Dolphins can swim up to 260m below the surface of the ocean and they can stay up to 15 minutes under water but they can not breath underwater.
Dolphins use echolocation to navigate and find food. Echolocation is the use of high frequency sounds for navigating and finding food. Dolphins use echolocation because dolphins are colour blind which means they can’t see much colour.Dolphins are colour blind because in our eyes there are at least two different cones in our eyes but dolphins only have one cone so that is why dolphins are colour blind. Dolphins release a focused beam of clicking sounds and then listen to the echo. From this they can determine the object’s size, shape, distance, speed, direction and internal structure. Depending on the object, sound waves can enter beneath the surface therefore giving feedback and information of the internal structure of an object. Other animals that use echolocation are bats and toothed whales. Echolocation is extremely sensitive and allows dolphins to examine small objects hundreds of miles away. Despite the name killer whale the Orca is actually the largest member of the dolphin family. Unfortunately Orcas eat or kill dolphins, baby seals, baby sea lions, baby sperm whales, penguins and turtles and humans. Orcas live all over the world in oceans. Orcas are powerful predators capable of killing prey much larger than humans, such as leopard seals and great white sharks. Most of the time Orcas don’t kill people. Even though Orcas are dolphins they don’t really act like dolphins. It is so sad that people think Orcas are evil geniuses because it’s not their fault they were developed like that so that is why I think Orcas are amazing. Also sharks are afraid of dolphins because because sharks like to eat animals that are smaller than them especially baby dolphins. Dolphins are smart so they’ve long figured it out, and since no animal or person would like to have their children eaten, whenever dolphins see a shark they will try to kill it. P.S. They usually succeed. That is why sharks are afraid of dolphins. I think my favourite species of dolphin is the Amazon River dolphin which is pink. That is how I appreciated dolphins today!!!!!!!! Today on this very day was Monday. Nothing special happening apart from the fact I brought my rabbits to school. Again nothing special. 3,2,1 OF COURSE IT WAS SPECIAL!!!! My rabbit's names are Coco and Fudge. Coco and Fudge are brothers and are black norwegian dwarf rabbits and are 3 years old. To look after rabbits it does cost lots of money. The hutch is expensive, if you want to get them neutered or spayed it costs a lot and the vaccinations. Rabbits can eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, it is essential that they have hay and pellets. Don't be tricked though rabbits aren't as low maintenance as they seem. Actually cats are a lot easier to take care of than a rabbit coming from my perspective. To look after rabbits easily you have to litter train them, change their litter box and rabbits might not always go to the litter box to do their buisness. What my rabbits kind of look like: I hope you learnt a lot about rabbits.
Last week 3 people from the Court Theatre came to perform Maui and the Sun. They had lots of songs and movement and they also talked a lot of Maori so in a way it was kind of educational. The story is that in the old days the days were shorter and the nights were longer because the sun was coming down too quickly. So Maui went on a journey to catch the sun and force it to slow down so the people could get their work done. I really liked the performance because it was educational because everybody at least learnt one Maori word.
What's better than two of your favourite animals combined into one. Well I'm going to write about animal hybrids. The dictionary definition of hybrid is the offspring of two plants or animals of different species or varieties. Hybrids happen when two different species get married and have babies. Here are some pictures of some animal hybrids. Liger - Lion & Tiger Zonkey- Zebra & Donkey Wholphins- False Killer Whale & Bottlenose Dolphin Savannah Cats- Cat & Wild African Cat That is some animal hybrids. |
